Vote Yes to Proposition 2 to Help Farm Animals

Wayne Parcell from the Humane Society of the U.S. will be on The Ellen DeGeneres show September 26th, (U.S.) to spread the word about Proposition 2 – an anti-cruelty measure that will end inhumane confinement of 20 million farm animals that suffer in tiny cages and crates their entire lives. You can only vote if you live in California, however, if you live elsewhere, you can still learn about this and get the word out to friends and family.

See here for airtime in your area. Ellen will feature this animation on the show as well.

Birds Dying From Ingesting Our Waste

My friend Kathleen sent me this short video which documents an exotic bird that died mysteriously. From an autopsy, environmentalists and scientists found a large amount of plastic contents in its stomach. This is what WE dump into our landfills and ocean. Please stop buying bottled fluids — do your part to help reduce the amount of plastic.

Mission: THE LEADER IN PROTECTING THE FREEDOM TO HUNT AND PROMOTING WILDLIFE CONSERVATION WORLDWIDE

Translation: “We need to protect our right to bear arms, so let’s articificially boost deer, moose and caribou population so we can shoot them, and then the predators have more to eat, too so we ARE helping to preserve wildlife.  But wait, we have to protect our corporate farming friends now that there are too many wolves and bears eating their livestock, so let’s shoot them too.”

Animals Doomed If Palin Runs This Country

This is written for Alternet by Michael Markarian from the Human Society Legislative Fund:

“Palin is not only a lifetime member of the NRA, but is also a close ally of Safari Club International. These radical groups don’t represent rank-and-file hunters, but instead lobby on behalf of their elitist, wealthy members to defend despicable and unsporting practices such as captive trophy hunts, bear baiting, and steel-jawed legold traps — practices that real hunters agree are inhumane and unacceptable.

And the Palin Administration, in lock-step with these extreme anti-conservationists, has waged an all-out war on Alaska’s predators to artificially boost the populations of moose and caribou for trophy hunters…Despite the effects of climate change on the bear’s vanishing habitat and shrinking ice floes, Gov. Palin penned an op-ed in The New York Times earlier this year arguing that it was the “wrong move” to list the polar bear under the Endangered Species Act. Later, when the Bush administration announced its listing of the polar bear as a threatened species, she filed a lawsuit seeking to reverse the decision. Environmentalists fired back over Palin’s lawsuit and said “her head-in-the-sand approach to global warming only helps oil companies, certainly not Alaska or the polar bear.”

Help Put Palin’s Wolf-Killing Record on TV

Sarah Palin is a champion of wildlife savagery, promoting unethical aerial killing of the endangered wolves, bears and other wildlife in Alaska. Help Defenders of Wildlife put this video on national television to educate voters about what this governor stands for.

From Defenders “Sarah Palin proposed paying a $150 bounty for the left foreleg of each dead wolf, approved a $400,000 state-funded propaganda campaign to promote aerial hunting, and interoduced legislation to make it easier to use aircraft to hunt wolves and bears.”

Palin Leaves Polar Bears Out In the Cold

This excerpt from Time.com about Palin says it all so I’m just going to quote it directly. Polar bears are of utmost importance to the Alaskan wilderness that are clearly endangered and disappearing right before our eyes, Palin maintains that polar bears are not worthy of being protected and preserved under the Endangered Species Act. It’s the oil – guys. That’s all she cares about.

“In January, Sarah Palin wrote in a New York Times op-ed piece, “[polar bears] are worthy of our utmost efforts to protect them and their Arctic habitat. But adding polar bears to the nation’s list of endangered species, as some are now proposing, should not be part of those efforts.” In May, the Alaskan governor opposed the Interior Department’s listing the polar bear as threatened, and prompted the ire of environmentalists and animal rights activists. In August, Palin, who has long advocated opening the Arctic National Wildlife Refuge to drilling, rallied her fellow Alaskan officials to sue Interior Secretary Dirk Kempthorne, arguing that extending protection to the polar bear under the Endangered Species Act is unwarranted and will hinder Alaska’s gas industry and offshore drilling development.”

Palin Supports Killing of Wolves (and other Animals)

Again, this is not my platform for politics, however, this one has to be posted. Sarah Palin, McCain’s VP candidate, the governor of Alaska, has been an advocate for the cruel Alaskan Wolf Killing spree for years. As a member of Defenders of Wildlife, an organization that champions for the welfare and survival of this incredible species, I’m sickened to even imagine that someone like Palin can take office. It’s no secret that the Republicans have always fought to drill for oil in this last great American wilderness and support the old misconception that shooting wolves protects livestock.

A photo from the L.A. Times showing palin posing for photo op with daughter after she shot a caribou:

“Palin has used her position as governor of Alaska to ruin the Alaskan wilderness in every way she could. Her most recent “victory” came on Aug. 26, when Alaska’s voters defeated Measure 2, an initiative that would have banned hunting wolves from airplanes for sport,” reported by John Dolin on AlterNet. It is said that according to Palin, shooting wolves is merely a safari. Imagine loud helicopters hanging the in the air, chasing a bunch of frightening little dogs and pups and spraying them with bullets.

Just recently, the Alaskan Game Board approved a free-for-all hunt for wolves near Gold Bay. The hunters killed all 14 terrified wolves from the snow, then raided a den of 14 surviving newborn pups nearby. This all too usual and cruel act is heinous. Please don’t vote for McCain and Palin as not only will these majestic creatures disappear forever, but so will our precious wilderness.

September 3 – Japan Dolphin Day

On Sept. 3, 2008, join the world in protest against Japan’s annual cruel eradication of more than 23,000 dolphins and small whales. Permitted by their government, this is legal. 46 animal advocacy groups in 20 cities will be holding rallies at the Japanese Consulates including San Francisco, Washington D.C. and Los Angeles, to name a few. One thing they are trying to do is to convince the Japanese government to mandatorially label foods that include Dolphin meat, among other efforts to spread the word to consumers. This is a first step in an attempt to end dolphin slaughter and keep the pressure on Japan. To learn more about how you can help, visit this link.
